Circleville Council Says No to Health District, Hears About Angled Parking

The Pickaway County Health Commissioner asked Circleville Council for more funds Tuesday evening.

.

Nasandra Wright says she is mandated by the state to be prepared for health emergencies. She's asking for $180,000 from the district, with 40% from Circleville. Wright says the Health District had a measles scare recently. The test came back negative so they did not have to respond to a health emergency, but she says they are not prepared for one - and so need adequate funding for an adequate response.

.

But council balked at their $72,000 portion with their strained budget, after two previous requests for funding increases...and voted "no." But they could be outvoted by the other townships and villages and have to pay up. Wright's request also included paying for a local 2-1-1 service to inform people who ask about services. She said it's not mandated, but most communities have one now.

Council heard the mayor is acting on a downtown request.

.

Don McIlroy said he's responding to stakeholders in the city center. "Uptown Circleville" asked for more parking, and angled parking was suggested. He says council told McIlroy its up to him. So, he wants much more input on the idea in a meeting September 12th. It's 6pm Thursday next week, in the back of Watt Tavern at Watt and Court streets.

.

The mayor expects to make a decision on angled parking by the end of the year.
