Safety Improvement at US 33 Intersection in Hocking County Now Complete

A safety improvement project along US 33 in Hocking has been completed. According to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), an eastbound offset right-hand-turn lane has been constructed at the intersection of US 33 and Clear Creek Road.

The roughly $504-thousand improvement, competed by Shelly & Sands, is intended to reduce the number of accidents in that location, which, from 2013 to 2015, saw a total of twelve crashes, earning it a spot on Governor Mike DeWine’s list of priority intersections.

ODOT says the high vehicle speeds in that location, at an average of 68 to 73 mph, coupled with high traffic volumes, previously did not allow drivers adequate time to decelerate in order to make the turn at US 33 and Clear Creek Road. The agency says this new improvement will allow motorists more time to decrease their speed.
