A memorial 5K to benefit homeless veterans will be taking place later this month in Ross County. The Dennis Simpson Memorial Walk for Homeless Veterans will take place on Saturday, November 2nd, at the Forrest E. Everhart Memorial Golf Course in Chillicothe.

Ray Pryor is a former State Representative and a founding and current board member for Veterans In Transition Inc., the non-profit organization sponsoring the dinner.
-
"Dennis Simpson and I worked together as veterans representatives for the State of Ohio, and he and I started the Homeless Veterans Walk in 1986," said Pryor. "Dennis has since passed, but he was largely responsible for getting this annual walk-a-thon and the Veterans In Transition Inc. charity started, which provides assistance to homeless and needy veterans."
-
Pryor says registration for the memorial walk begins at 9:00 a.m. that Saturday, and fees related to the walk can be paid at that time.
-
"We're urging people to get sponsors and come out and walk with us around the beautiful grounds of the golf course at the VA hospital," said Pryor. "It's typically about a 5K walk, and we take pledges and donations. All those donations go into the directly into the assistance program for homeless veterans."
-
There will be refreshments for participants, and Pryor says participants are also welcome to stick around and visit some of the attractions located on the VA campus.
-
"We'll feed the people and have plenty of water, juice, and coffee, and all types of things on hand," said Pryor. "If they wish, they can take a tour of the museum at the VA. We hope to show off our new Healing Garden, which is located behind the golf course starter house."
