Adena & Zane Trace Advance to District Final Battle

SVC rivals Adena and Zane Trace won Division 3 District Semi matches Tuesday to face each other in the finals on Saturday. The Warriors beat Nelsonville York (25-17, 23-25, 25-15, 25-14) and Zane Trace topped Fairland (25-18, 25-15, 25-22) at Waverly High School.

ADENA (25-17, 23-25, 25-15, 25-14) OVER NELSONVILLE YORK

Adena found themselves down early in Set #1, trailing 6-3 and 11-10, before pulling away on 5-0 run for a 15-11 lead. The last time the score was close was 18-15, when the Warriors went on their last run for a 25-17 win.

Set #2 found Adena up early, but Nelsonville York took off to leads of 12-9, 13-9 and 16-13, only to see Adena rally for leads of 18-17, 20-18 and 21-19. NY finished on a 6-2 run for a 25-23 win to even the match at (1-1).

The Warriors regained the momentum in Set #3 with an 8-0 start, mostly on the serving arm of Camryn Carroll, as Adena led the entire set. The Buckeyes got as close to 12-8, then Adena pushed on for a 25-15 win.

Set #4 saw NY grab early leads of 4-1 and 8-5, before Adena went on a 13-0 run behind the serving of Olivia Riley to put the Warriors in front 18-8. The Warriors finished for a 25-14 match win.

Ellie Harper and Makenna Lovely led the Adena offensive attack with 18 and 16 kills respectively. Jenna Martin added 9, Hannah Burns with 7, Sydney Fogelsong 4 and Makaela Lovely with 2. Makenna Lovely added 26 digs, Camryn Carroll 21, Ari DaRif 16 and Olivia Riley 15 digs. The Warriors also had 7 serving aces, with Carroll leading with 3.

Nelsonville York was led by Mackenzie Hurd's 16 kills and 10 from Ryleigh Giffin. Grace Sinnott had 35 digs, Hurd with 19 and Giffin 12.

Adena improves to (17-7) as Nelsonville York's season ends at 15-10.

ZANE TRACE 25-18, 25-15, 25-22 OVER FAIRLAND

The Pioneers got out of the gate quickly in each of the first two sets enroute to their sweep. In Set #1, the Pioneers built leads of 8-1, and 17-9 before the Dragons closed the margin to 21-16, before ZT finished it off.

Set 2 was much the same, getting leads of 7-2, 14-6, and 17-9. Fairland only got as close as 18-13, before the Pioneers too their (2-0) advantage.

Set 3 proved to be a little close in the end. After the Pioneers built a 21-14 lead, Fairland went on a 7-0 run to tie at 21-21. The Pioneers made some personnel changes and got the momentum back to close the match on a 5-1 run for the sweep.

Zane Trace was led by Allison Bennett's 15 kills, followed by Hannah Hale and Laynee Hill- each with 7. Lexi Scott had 6 kills, then 5 each from Gracie McCullough and Emily Allen. The Pioneers defense was also led by Bennett's 14 digs with 12 coming from Lexi Betts and Kinley May with 9. Zane Trace had 7 serving aces.

Fairland got 8 kills from Baily Roland and 6 from Brooklynn Roland. Jenna Stone had 14 digs.

The Pioneers are now (15-9) and meet Adena at 4pm Saturday in the D-3 Disrict Final. Fairland closes their season at (15-9).
