Ross County Sheriff Warns of Jury Duty Phone Scam

The Ross County Sheriff is issuing a warning to the public in regard toa phone scam that’s been occurring throughout the county.

Ross County Sheriff George Lavender on Tuesday said his office has received reports from residents saying they’ve received calls that spoof the sheriff’s 773-1186 office line, and the caller claims to be an office employee by the name of Carl Delaney.

The caller proceeds to tell the victim they have failed to show for required jury duty and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest. The caller then requests money from the victim to settle the matter.

Sheriff Lavender says these calls are fraudulent and should be ignored. He says if you receive such a call, you should simply hang up the phone, and then contact the Ross County Sheriff’s Office to report the call.
