Two Vehicle Crash Along 23 Southbound in Chillicothe Injures Four

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle injury crash that occurred on US 23 near Main Street in Scioto Township at 6:38 P.M. on November 1, 2019.

A 1995 Ford Windstar driven by Billie Rhoades, 62, of Chillicothe, Ohio was southbound on US 23 when her vehicle became disabled on the bridge crossing the Scioto River in the right lane. A 2014 Ford Focus driven by Kayla Stone, 24, of Chillicothe, Ohio was also southbound on US 23 in the right lane when she failed to maintain an assured clear distance ahead and struck Ms. Rhoades from behind. The crash resulted in US 23 southbound being blocked in all three lanes for approximately two hours.

Ms. Rhoades was transported from the scene to the Adena Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Sharon Hahn, 69, Sarah Rhoades, 24, and Cynthia Cooper, 54, all of Chillicothe, Ohio were in the vehicle with Ms. Rhoades and all were transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries to the Adena Regional Medical Center. Ms. Stone was alone in her vehicle and was transported from the scene to the Adena Regional Medical Center also with minor injuries.

Ms. Stone was issued a citation for failure to maintain an assured clear distance ahead and driving while distracted.

Motorists are reminded to focus their attention on the roadway and avoid distractions while driving.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Chillicothe Fire Department, Scioto, Springfield and Liberty Township Fire/EMS. The crash remains under investigation.
