Ohio’s World Heritage Information Session

The public is being invited to join the Ross-Chillicothe Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Ohio History Connection and the National Park Service for a conversation about Ohio’s World Heritage opportunity.

It'll take place on this Tuesday, November 12th at the PACCAR Medical Education Center on the campus of Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The eight local earthworks, known collectively as the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks, have been nominated to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) World Heritage List.

The Earthworks would be Ohio’s first World Heritage site, and the 25th in the country.

.

Nearly 2,000 years ago, ancient American Indian people built and gathered in these amazing places to connect with each other, the earth and the cosmos.

.

During the November 12th event, participants will learn about the significance of these internationally renowned earthworks and the value of World Heritage inscription to all of Ohio’s communities. It will also include an update on the progress of the nomination.

Specials speakers taking part in the event are Adena Medical Group President, Dr. John Gabis; Ross County Commissioner, Dwight Garrett; Hopewell Culture National Historical Park Superintendent, Karen Dom; and Ohio History Connection World Heritage Ohio Project Director, Jen Aultman.
