New Report Finds Rise in Ohio Suicide Rates

24/7 News Source (Columbus, OH) -- A new report from the state department of health is showing a disturbing rise in Ohio's suicide rates. According to the data released this week, Ohio has seen a 45% increase in suicides over the past decade. Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton said that suicides had increased by 50% in young people between the ages of ten and 24, and it is now the leading cause of death for those between ten and 14.

The Governor's office responded to the report saying a new program called Recovery-Ohio is being implemented to help address and offer support for mental illness and other issues leading to suicide.
