Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Wife Fran Speak in Chillicothe

The Ohio Governor gave the "Lincoln Day" annual address to the Ross County Republican Party Wednesday evening. Mike DeWine spoke on two initiatives.

First, he referred to preventing shootings like in Dayton. He said he wants to make sure the criminal records system works right for violent repeat offenders, so that background checks work right.

DeWine said he is asking the general assembly to pass legislation that should not concern supporters of second Amendment rights, and allow law-abiding people to buy guns...but not criminals.

It should also address the potential of family violence caused by mental health or addiction.

He invited his wife, Ohio's First Lady Fran DeWine, to speak on the other initiative: funding Dolly Parton’s "Imagination Library" for all children in Ohio, to put a focus on early childhood education and development.

The program sends a book a month to children age zero to five so they are ready for kindergarten. To fund it, counties raise money, and the state matches that.

Ross County already has the program, but Fran opened her first new one in Pike County recently. Mike says about 28% of the kids in Ross County are signed up...so far.
