State May Require Suicide Prevention in Schools

In the statehouse, some lawmakers want to bring suicide prevention curriculum into Ohio's schools.

Representative Gayle Manning sponsored a bill which would require one hour of class time each school year for students starting in the sixth grade. However, parents who oppose the curriculum can opt their child out.

The bill passed the House and currently stands in the Senate committee.

According to Franklin County reports from the coroner's office, seven teens killed themselves last year from January through November.
