Redstreaks and Mustangs Advance to Sectional Finals

The Piketon Redstreaks got two big plays from Levi Gullion down the stretch to enable them to hold-off West Union 42-38 in the Boys Division 3 Sectional Semis at Waverly, Monday night.

Gullion made a big three-point play for a 35-31 lead, then later iced the win with two free throws with 4 seconds remaining, for the 42-38 final margin.

(12-11) Piketon was led by senior forward Tyree Harris' 13 points, 10 of which came in the first half. Gullion added 11 points and 6 rebounds. Cameron Campbell led the (9-14) Dragons with 11 points.

.

Piketon led 16-5 at the end of the first quarter, finishing on a 14-2 run to end the period, then held their biggest lead at 21-5 late in the second quarter, before West Union closed that gap to 23-14 at halftime.

.

The Redstreaks led 30-25 after three, but saw West Union close the gap to 30-29 and 32-31, but could not get the lead.

.

Piketon shot 13/42- including 6/23 from the arc for only 31% and added 10/11 at the foul line. West Union was 15/38- including 3/6 from the arc for 39% and added 5/6 from the line. West Union had 7 turnovers and Piketon 5. The Streaks were out-rebounded 27-25.

Piketon plays Zane Trace ay 6pm Friday for the Sectional title at Waverly Downtown Gym, with WKKJ airtime at 5:45pm.

Elsewhere involving SVC teams, Westfall had three players in double figures in their 67-52 win over Belpre, to advance to the section finals against Fairland at Jackson High School.

Lucas Blackburn led the Mustangs with 23 points, followed by Jay Wyman with 16 and Hayden Lemaser with 14.
