Kroger Gives Bonuses; JCPenney Files for Chapter 11

The nation's largest supermarket chain is thanking its essential workers with a bonus. Kroger will give 400-dollars to those who are full-time and half that to part-timers.

This comes as the company is ending its "hero pay" on Sunday. The program gave employees an extra two-bucks an hour.

In contrast, JCPenney is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The north Texas-based company announced Friday afternoon it wanted to restructure to reduce debt and greatly increase financial flexibility.

The company's CEO blamed coronavirus for their decision, saying they had made significant progress in rebuilding the company until the pandemic. They shut down all stores in mid-March due to coronavirus.
