New Holland Woman Killed, Children Injured in Fayette County Crash

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a one-vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred on Wednesday evening, May 20, 2020 on State Route #207 in the Village of Pancoastburg, Marion Township, Fayette County. The crash was reported at 9:51 p.m.

According to Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, a 2010 Chevrolet Cruz operated by Carmella S. Long, age 36 of New Holland, Ohio was traveling south on State Route #207 in the unincorporated Village of Pancoastburg when Ms. Long lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, over-corrected and crossed the center line traveling off the left side of the roadway, striking a fence and a utility pole before coming to rest. Ms. Long was fatally injured in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

Two children in Ms. Long's vehicle, ages 9 and 1, were injured in the crash and both transported by Med Flight helicopter to Children’s Hospital for treatment of their injuries. The vehicle sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene.

Responding to the scene were members of Fayette County EMS, Tri-County Joint Fire & EMS, Sheriff’s Rescue Unit, and the Dayton Power & Light Company. The Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.
