Lincoln Flag Flies at Ohio Statehouse

(24/7 News Source) -- A 36-star U.S. flag that flew when Abraham Lincoln's body laid in state at the Ohio Statehouse is back on display. Officials brought out the banner for showing over the weekend in honor of Memorial Day.

The flag originally flew above the statehouse on April 29th, 1865 when Lincoln's coffin was placed in the rotunda to allow mourners to pay their respects to the president who had led the nation through the Civil War.

Following the viewing, the flag was given to David Nevan Murray of Portsmouth, for his contribution to the war effort and was lent out often for special events until 2016 when it underwent a complete restoration.
