Friday, June 19th Ross County Grand Jury Indictments

The Ross County Grand Jury was presented with 16 cases during its Friday, June 19th session with only six cases open to the public.

Among those, Nancy L. Browning, 18, of Lucasville was indicted on a fourth-degree felony count of trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present. This indictment comes after Ms. Browning is alleged to have entered her mother’s home at 865 Liberty Hill Road on March 12th of 2020 without permission and was also reported to have assaulted her mother while inside.

In a co-defendant case, Cayla S. Spano, 30, and Taylor G.L. Looney, 25, both of Chillicothe, were each indicted on a single first-degree misdemeanor charge of theft. This indictment comes from an incident on May 25th of 2020 when a Ross Sheriff’s Deputy was called to the Sun Valley Campground along County Road 550 in reference to a suspicious vehicle. The deputy located a Toyota SUV with no plates, occupied by Ms. Spano and Mr. Looney, and filled with less than $1,000 worth of items alleged to have been illegally taken from a storage shed on campground lot.

Another co-defendant case saw Cory L. Ford, 27, of Kingston, and Mindy Penrod, 30, of Massieville, each indicted on a single fourth-degree felony charge of trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present. This alleged incident took place on February 2nd of 2020 when Ross Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a residence at 645 Toad Hollow Road in reference to a suspicious person. On arrival at the scene, a deputy witnessed Ms. Penrod exiting the home through the front of residence, and soon after, Mr. Ford was witnessed running from the rear of the residence. An investigation revealed that neither had permission to be inside the home.

In the final open case from Friday’s session, Zachary M. Taylor, 36, of Baltimore, Ohio was indicted on a third-degree felony count of failure to comply, and a fourth-degree felony count of receiving stolen property. Mr. Taylor was indicted after crashing a vehicle, reported stolen from the Portsmouth Kroger on May 6th of 2020 following a police-involved vehicle pursuit. The Troopers had caught up with the vehicle along U.S. 23 and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle sped off however and a chase ensued which ended on Blain Highway when Mr. Taylor crashed into a tree. Mr. Taylor is reported to have attempted to flee the wreck on foot, but collapsed soon after.
