Nearly 1,000 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Ohio

(Columbus) -- There have been nearly one-thousand new cases of COVID-19 reported in Ohio in the last 24 hours.

Health officials today announced 987 new infections, bringing the statewide total to 48-thousand-638. The death toll rose by 16 while the number of people hospitalized with coronavirus went up by 68 patients.

All numbers reflect confirmed and probable cases of the virus.

Governor Mike DeWine says increased testing is not the sole reason COVID-19 cases are surging across the state. He reported 832 new coronavirus cases yesterday, the fourth-highest jump since the pandemic began in March.

Nearly 60-percent of those cases involve people between ages 20 and 49, signaling an apparent lack of precautions taken by younger Ohioans.
