Arrest Made in Violent Pike County Assault

Two men were seriously injured and a third person was arrested after a violent assault in Pike County over the weekend. Pike County Sheriff Jame Nelson his office was called at 6:53pm Saturday, July 11th to Buchanan Road in reference to a stabbing.

Upon arrival deputies located a male with a stab wound to the abdomen. The male, identified as 51-year-old Richard Titer Jr. of Springfield was flown by Medflight to Grant Hospital. Another male identified as 56-year-old Patrick Colburn of Buchanan Road was transported to Adena Pike Hospital for injuries he received to his head and upper body after being struck with a ball bat several times.

During the course of the investigation it was found that 42-year-old Samuel B.Smith of Johnson Hill Road was responsible for that attack on Colburn. Smith was taken into custody, charged with felonious assault and lodged in the Butler County Jail. The investigation is continuing and Sheriff Nelson expects additional charges will be filed.

A case against Samuel Smith will be presented to the next term of the Pike County Grand Jury.
