Adena Offense Shines in Win At Paint Valley

Delayed by two hours, due to lightning, the Adena Warriors shook-off the rust in a 50-28 season opening win at Paint Valley, Friday night.

The Warriors rolled up 432 total yards, with 324 on the ground, while holding the Bearcats to 291 total yards.

Adena scored on their first four possessions, but Paint Valley scored on four of their first five, to stay close until late in the game.

The Warriors held a 36-20 lead at halftime, but the Bearcats got back to within 36-28 early in the second half. But, that is as close as PV could get, with Adena scoring two unanswered TD's for the win.

Adena's biggest negative was penalties, being flagged 10 times for 110 yards.

Adena's Preston Sykes was 9/14 passing for 108 yards, rushed 16 times for 169 yards and accounted for six touchdowns. He ran for three TD's, threw for two and returned an interception 43 yards for another.

Paint Valley's Cavan Cooper connected on 6/17 for 105 yards and two TD's, with Tramel Byrd rushing 15 times for 105 yards and two TD's.

Adena travels to Unioto in another key SVC contest, as the Shermans scored on the final play to beat Piketon 44-38.
