Redman Retires As Westfall Softball Coach

The only SVC softball coach to ever win a state championship, is retiring after 11 seasons.

As reported first on the website Sporting Pumpkin.com, Fred Redman says he wants to spend more time with his family.

Redman led the Lady Mustangs to five SVC championships, three of which were Gold Softball seasons, where they went (14-0) in conference play. He was named SVC "Coach of the Year" five times.

The other two titles were (13-1) seasons in the SVC, including the 2014 team where they won the Division 3 state championship in a memorable 14 inning marathon 1-0 decision over state power-house Bloom Carroll.

iHeart Media Sports Director Mike Smith had spoken within the last week to Athletic Director Trevor Thomas about the softball job posting and whether Redman would re-apply. As of October 13th, Thomas wasn't certain as to Redman's plans, but that has now been laid to rest.
