Mechanicsburg Topples Adena in Football Regional Semis

Adena's most successful football playoff run in school history came to a close Saturday in their 42-14 loss to #2 state ranked Mechanicsburg. The 8th ranked Warriors moved the ball early in the game, but could not finish drives as they fell behind 28-0 at halftime.

Two quick scores late in the third and early fourth quarters cut the margin to 28-14, but two turnovers on consecutive possessions allowed Mechanicsburg to blow the game open for the 42-14 final.

Mechanicsburg scoring drives covered 72, 75, 77 and 53 yards in the first half, with shorter drives of 25 and 10 yards late in the game following Adena turnovers.

Adens scores came on TD passes from Preston Sykes to Logan Bennett from 7 yards and Sykes hit Nate Throckmorton on a 5 yard TD pass.

Mechanicsburg rolled up 343 total yards with 285 on the ground, led by Jake Hurst's 123 yards on 11 carries.

Adena's Nate Throckmorton ran for 100 yards on 16 carries as Preston Sykes threw 10/21 for 108 yards.

The Warriors had three turnovers.

Adena closes their season at (8-1) and Mechanicsburg improves to (9-0).
