Westfall VB Raises Play To Top Alexander For District Crown

The Westfall Mustangs got offensive output from more than the regular go-to players of Marissa Mullins and Kristen Phillips in their (24-26, 25-20, 25-17, 25-17) Division 3 District title win over Alexander, Saturday at Waverly High School.

Hailey Young and Ashley Hegarty had 12 and 8 kills respectively, to go along with Phillips 20 and Mullins 12 kills to over-power Alexander in four sets.

The (17-4) Mustangs overcame numerous hitting and serving errors in the match, and took control, once they did.

Mullins led the defense with 15 digs, Lauren Daniels had 11, while Claire Latham and Phillips each had 10. Kayla Fleischman added 7 digs. Kristen Phillips also had 3 blocks.

Alexander saw senior Karsyn Raines pound 17 kills with 21 digs to lead the (20-4) Spartans. Olivia Ohms had 26 digs.

Westfall served 11 aces, with Young providing 6 of those.

The Mustangs advance to the Division 3 Regional Semis Thursday at Berne Union High School, where the face SVC rival Adena. The Warriors won both of their regular season meetings.

In Division 2 District Final action at Southeastern High School, the Sheridan Generals ended Circleville's season with a (25-16, 23-25, 25-17, 25-22) decision.
