Alexander Rallies To Edge Unioto In Boys Soccer Sweet 16

A 3-1 scoring close for the Alexander Spartans proved to be the difference in their 4-3 Boys Division 2 Regional Soccer Semifinal, Wednesday over Unioto at Zane Trace High School.

Things were looking good for the Shermans to start the match when Lucas Hanes scored in the first 15 seconds for a 1-0 lead.

That lead extended to 2-0 with just under 29 minutes left in the first half on River Pettigrew's first of two goals in the match and remained that way until about eight minutes later.

Alexander got onto the scoreboard on a Parler Bolin goal to make it 2-1, but Pettigrew put the Tanks up 3-1 with over seven minutes remaining of the first half.

But that would be the last time Unioto scored the rest of the night as the tide started to turn with just under three minutes left in the half. That's when the Spartans added a goal to make it 3-2, which held up going into intermission.

Alexander tied the match 3-3 with 20:45 to play and would score the eventual winning goal with 14:13 to play, and held on for the win.

Unioto's season ends with a (15-5) record and their first district championship since 2004.

The Spartans advance to the Saturday Regional Final with a (17-1-1) mark.
