Jackson Tax Levy Averts Police Layoffs

Voters in Jackson have approved an income tax levy on Tuesday that will allow the city to call off proposed layoffs that included some in the police department.

The income tax levy will provide an annual revenue source of $2.2-million annually. If you live or work in the city of Jackson, 1.5% of each pay check will now be heading to the city.

If the income tax levy levy did not pass, Mayor Randy Evans said layoffs were being planned, including that of nine officers and dispatchers in the Jackson Police Department.
