A Vietnam veteran who enlisted to serve his country between 1967-70, is still serving the nation and his veteran colleagues through the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
He served in the Army as a paratrooper from 1968-1969.
Jim Smith has been a volunteer with the VA for four years this month and volunteers his time to drive for Highland County Veterans Service Office. This consists of picking up and taking Veterans to VA appointments.
Smith says military veterans need to sign up for the benefits they are entitled to through the VA, and improvements made in the system in recent years have been noticed and appreciated.
