A Washington Court Course native and former member of the Ohio House of Representatives has died.
Word of John Schlichter's death started to emerge on social media late Thursday from friends and former colleagues. The cause of the 62-year-old public servant's death is not known, but was sudden and unexpected, possibly from a heart attack.
Schlichter served in the Ohio House of Representatives 85th district between 2003-2009 after having been a Fayette County Commissioner for four years and a farmer for three decades. He later worked in the Ohio Department of Agriculture and recently served as executive director of the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program.
He also served on the Miami Trace Board of Education, the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees and as a legislative aide for State Senate President Pro Tempore Bob Peterson.
John is survived by his wife Debbie and their three adult children. John and Debbie Schlichter were living in Delaware, Ohio.
