Kiwanis Ben Segal Christmas Project Spreads Tidings To Huntington Students

The Kiwanis Club of Chillicothe delivered gifts to fifteen children in the Huntington School District as part of their Ben Segal Christmas Project.

Starting in 1932, each year a dozen or more underprivileged boys and girls from elementary grades of the city and county schools have been entertained by a luncheon and gifts of candy, fruit, toys and clothing presented by Santa Claus. Mr. Segal always presented each child a silver dollar as his gift.

Kiwanian Ben Segal (Chillicothe Businessman) has over the years directed and mostly financed this annual event. Mr. Segal passed away in August 1978 and the annual Christmas party has been recognized as the Ben Segal Children’s Christmas Party sometime after his death to honor his commitment to the children of need.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.

Regardless of the community, when you give a child the chance to learn, experience, dream, grow, succeed, and thrive, great things can happen.

This year things happened a little differently and the luncheon was not able to take place. However, Mr. Segal’s Christmas commitment to the children continued.

Gifts were delivered to the school so local teachers could drop them off at the recipient’s homes. The magic of Christmas lives on through Ben Segal’s legacy for the children of our community.
