Sunday New COVID Cases Under 7,000 As Second Round Vaccination Readies

(24/7 News Source) - A report from the Ohio Department of Health is showing another single-day total of more than six-thousand cases of COVID-19. Public officials said there were six-thousand-808 newly confirmed coronavirus cases on Sunday, marking the sixth day in the past week with under seven-thousand new positives. There were 59 new deaths in the report and another 165 patients being treated in the state's medical facilities. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Ohio has now reported over 721-thousand cases of COVID-19 with just over nine-thousand deaths.

Several Central Ohio medical centers are preparing to administer a second-round of the COVID-19 vaccine starting today. Officials said yesterday that Pfizer's vaccine requires two doses given three weeks apart, and today marks the start of the third week since vaccinations began. Close to one-thousand employees at OSU Wexner Medical Center are expected to have been fully inoculated by the end of the week. Wexner's Dr. Crystal Tubbs said the second dose is crucial because the Pfizer vaccine only has a 95 percent efficacy rate if the patient receives both shots.
