Unioto Claims D-2 District Basketball Crown

Unioto returns to the boys basketball "Sweet 16" with a 47-32 Division 2 District Championship over Gallia Academy Saturday at Piketon High School.

Despite being outrebounded 25-16, the Tanks overcame the Blue Devils efforts to pound the ball inside to 6'6' sophomore post-player Isaac Clary, holding him to 11 points and 8 rebounds, the only GA player to hit double-digits. Brody Fellure added 9, Carson Call 8 and 2 each from Kenyon Franklin and Cooper Davis, who also grabbed 11 rebounds.

Unioto had three players in doubles, led by De'Sean Branson's 16 points, 15 from Isaac Little and Tayvion Galloway's 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. All of Galloway's points came in the first half. Evan Park and Cameron Debord rounded out the scoring with a combined 5 points.

The Shermans shot 16/41 from the field- including 5/14 from the arc for a chilly 39%, while adding 10/12 at the foul line. Gallia Academy shot 10/29- including 1/4 from the arc for 34%, while connecting on 11/18 from the foul line. Turnovers were 15-13 GA.

Unioto improves to (17-5) and now will face Columbus DeSales in the D-2 Regional Semis at 5:30pm Thursday, March 11th at Southeastern High School. WKKJ airtime will be 5:15pm.

Warren will be in the other semifinal against Meadowbrook, after the Warriors beat Waverly 70-55. Meadowbrook won the East District title with a 45-26 victory over Cambridge.
