Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and Ohio Congressman Brad Wenstrup spoke to the Republican Women of Ross County in an annual banquet last night.
In his keynote address, LaRose said his office oversees elections, and he said the Ross County Board of Elections - among most in the state - proved themselves last fall when it was more difficult than ever to run an election. And yet, he described it as "Ohio's most successful election" with a record turnout.
LaRose pointed out that you do not want an activist Secretary of State - you want an impartial referee who makes sure that every legal ballot is counted.
Ohio District 2 Congressman Brad Wenstrup was asked for his perspective on the two current major national stories.
Regarding the immigrant situation at the Mexican border, he says we need Ellis Island order, not the current mayhem.
He said it is a mess and has become very inhumane. "We've got a fence around Capitol but we let anyone into the country right now."
As for the mass shootings, Wenstrup spoke from his medical experience and said we need to address the major causes of such violence.
He asked what the events are in someone's life that lead them to a mass shooting, and that we need better mental health care to prevent such violence.
