More time to get your license

Ohioans are getting an extension if they have not yet upgraded to the new REAL ID driver's licenses. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed yesterday it was pushing the REAL ID deadline back 19-months from October 1st, 2021, to May 3rd, 2023. Congress passed the REAL ID law in 2005 to set security standards for driver's licenses nationwide, and they are needed for anyone who wishes to travel commercially by airplane or enter federal buildings. REAL IDs can be obtained at a Driver's Services Center with proof of U.S. citizenship and proof of Ohio residency.
