Effort to curb vandalism

Members of the Hillsboro City Parks Committee are seeking volunteers to participate in a community watch program, in hopes of curbing a rising trend of vandalism locally. Incidents have involved trash cans being set on fire and park benches being tossed into Harmony Lake at Liberty Park. City employees are hesitant to fix damaged property because they‘re worried the cycle will just repeat itself. The hope is an increased presence of people will deter the vandals from continuing to do damage. Recent acts have included damage done to renovated park bathrooms with brand new toilets and plumbing. Within the last two weeks, City officials say someone had ripped the doors off the hinges, damaged the toilets, and cut out all the copper pipes
