Entomologists and other experts say the recent cold snap here in Ohio is delaying the emergence of a large batch of periodical cicadas [[ suh-cade-ahs ]]. The insects cannot emerge from the ground for the first time since 2004 until the soil reaches a temperature around 64 degrees. Brood X is one of 25 broods of cicada that emerge every 13 to 17-years, with other cicada species emerging yearly.
