Two Dead in Scioto County Plane Crash

Both pilot and passenger died in a plane crash in Scioto County Friday morning.

The Highway Patrol reports that around 11am the plane struck a hillside in a wooded area near Sheep Ranch Hollow Road off State Route 104, near McDermott.

The occupants, 64-year-old pilot David Lewis James, and passenger 62-year-old Lori Denise James, both of Bellefontaine, were killed on impact a few miles south of Lucasville. Some reports mention that a child also died in the crash.

The plane was a 2015 Lancair Evolution. The FAA and NTSB are investigating. The flight originated out of Bellefontaine and was en route to Charleston, South Carolina.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Scioto County Sheriff Dept., Union and Rush VFD and Scioto Squad 2.
