Greene County Public Health Hopes for Bullseye With “Shoot for a Shot”

This Saturday, Ohioans interested in hunting and shooting will have an added incentive to get the shot – a free day at the shooting range. The Greene County Health District has partnered with the local district of the Ohio Division of Wildlife to offer education and shooting opportunities for those who are vaccinated at the “Shoot for a Shot” clinic.

The clinic will be held this Saturday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Spring Valley Shooting Range and Education Center at 3570 Houston Road in Waynesville. Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines will be available. The Pfizer vaccine is the only COVID-19 vaccine authorized for those ages 12-17, and youth in that age range attending the clinic must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines are authorized for those age 18 and older.

“We know that it is important to bring life-saving COVID-19 vaccines to people at the places they go, and offer incentives with the things they do and enjoy,” explained Greene County Health Commissioner Melissa Howell. “Partnering with the Ohio Division of Wildlife to offer a day of free shooting for those who get the shot is a perfect match.”

In addition to allowing licensed experienced shooters to practice, the Ohio Division of Wildlife will have certified firearms instructors, firearms, and ammunition on hand to assist beginners in learning the basics of shooting. Those who get the shot at Saturday’s clinic will receive a voucher to either shoot at the range for free that day, or return another day.
