Questions are being asked about the selection process in naming the new President of Ohio University. The schools' Board of Trustees did not create a search committee prior to naming faculty member Hugh Sherman to replace Duane T. Nellis. University faculty members, nor the mayors of the six cities where the schools branch campuses are located, had a say in the choice of Sherman. The board of trustees said it would assemble a national search committee to pick the next president, but just two weeks later announced Sherman as their choice. Days before Sherman's appointment, the mayors of Chillicothe, Athens, Ironton, Lancaster, Saint Clairsville and Zanesville signed a letter to the board requesting to be included in the search process. Nellis stepped down on May 13th, Sherman's two-year appointment as President began this past Monday.
