Double-Fatal Crash on US 35 Near Jackson Friday

The Highway Patrol reported a two-vehicle, double-fatal crash on US 35 southeast of Jackson Friday afternoon.

At 5:35pm, 70-year-old Gary Hammond of Jackson was crossing US 35 northbound in a 2019 Ford F-150, from Dixon Run Road to Clary Road. 43-year-old Gary Carrier of Charleston, West Virginia was northbound on US 35 in a 2010 Dodge Challenger. The Dodge struck the Ford in the right side and both vehicles traveled off the road.

Hammond was transported by MedFlight to St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, due to the severity of his injuries. His passenger, 63-year-old Kathleen Hammond of Jackson, was transported to Holzer Medical Center in Jackson where she succumbed to her injuries.

Carrier was transported to Holzer but succumbed to his injuries as well.

The right lane of US 35 and Clary Road were shut down for approximately four hours.

The Ohio Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office assisted with scene preservation and traffic control. The Bloomfield Township Fire Department also assisted with emergency medical services and traffic control.
