Athens Cancels Annual Halloween Block Party

The City of Athens is canceling its annual Halloween Block Party again this year due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.

On Monday, city officials said it would not sanction any activities for the second year in a row because of increasing COVID-19 numbers in the county related to the Delta variant of the virus.

The city says streets will remain open, but no activities, bandstands, or vendors will be scheduled.

The party formed off of Athens' reputation as one of the most haunted cities in America and attracts between 20 to 30-thousand dressed-up partygoers on four closed blocks of uptown streets.
