Two of the Scioto Valley Conference's top teams squared off on a soggy Friday night, and it was no contest as host Zane Trace raced past Paint Valley 48-to-14. It was the "Herrnstein Hyundai" SVC football Game of the Week on 94-Country-WKKJ. Zane Trace, which has not punted in it's last two games, scored the first three times they had the ball, jumping out to a 21-to-nothing lead 8-minutes into the first quarter. The margin ballooned to 34-to-8 in favor of the Pioneers at the intermission. Zane Trace quarterback Ben Nichols, our "McDonalds's Big Mac/Big Player" of the game, rushed for four touchdowns, and passed for another. Paint Valley, hurt by turnovers and by losing star quarterback Cavan Cooper to injury in the first half, could never get on track offensively. On the night, Zane Trace outgained the Bearcats 374 yards-to-206 yards. The win almost certainly wraps up a playoff berth for Zane Trace in Division V, while Paint Valley is virtually assured of a berth in Division VI. With the win, Zane Trace is now alone in second place in the SVC at 5-and-1, the Pioneers are 7-and-2 overall. Paint Valley falls to 4-and-2 in the SVC, and 5-and-4 overall. Next week, Zane Trace closes out regular season play by hosting Adena. Paint Valley will entertain Southeastern. The "Herrnstein Hyundai" SVC football Game of the Week on 94-Country-WKKJ next Friday will feature unbeaten Piketon playing at Huntington, starting at 7:00 P-M.
