Hillsboro Mother Starts GoFundMe Page to Get Autistic Son a Service Dog

A Hillsboro mother is seeking community support to get her non-verbal autistic son a service dog.

Theresa Smith is the single mother of 8-year-old Sheldon. She created a GoFundMe fundraiser Thursday which has a goal of $3,500.

Smith wrote on the GoFundMe that Sheldon is a wanderer and this will help him so much.

"I’m afraid for his safety and with being nonverbal there’s no way to protect him when I’m not with him. I’m a single mom. I work and we do school, outside speech and feeding therapy, and in-home 5 days a week. Sure would be a gift from God to have a dedicated friend (service dog) to help him grow. At this time we can’t go to stores, family, or social events for fear of losing him. He’s in need of an Autism ASD trained golden doodle."
