Tense moments near Jail

Two people are in custody after gunshots were heard Sunday in the area near the Ross County Jail in Chillicothe. A Sheriffs deputy who was leaving the jail after dropping off an arrestee heard several loud "pops" coming the area around 19 East Main Street. The Deputy went to investigate and encountered two people, later identified as Joshua Peoples and Dominique Harris. An Ohio State Patrol trooper who was leaving the jail went to investigate after hearing the deputy yelling at Peoples and Harris, and found the deputy holding them both at gunpoint. Both the trooper and the deputy were able to secure the individuals and the scene. It was determined the noises heard intially by the deputy were in fact gunshots.....no word on why the shots were fired. Both Harris and Peoples were taken into custody.
