Chillicothe Gathers for Veterans Day Purple Heart Monument Dedication

The dedication for Chillicothe's new Purple Heart Monument was held Thursday afternoon in celebration of Veterans Day. The monument is located at Veterans Memorial Park and accopanies the city's designation as a Purple Heart City.

"The Purple Heart City is important to any city that gets it,' said Gerry Palmer, President of the Ross County Veterans Council who spoke at the ceremony. "This monument is a symbol of the city paying its respects to service members that are Purple Heart recipients."

Local entrepreneur and veteran Purple Heart recipient Ben Daughters also spoke during Thursday's ceremony.

"It's amazing that our community is willing to stand up and really outwardly show support for, not only our veterans, but also for current service members that were wounded or killed in action," said Daughters. "Being a veteran myself and a Purple Heart recipient, it's very humbling and much appreciated."

The new Purple Heart monument is located in Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of Park and Chestnut Streets.
