Greene County is mourning the loss of Sheriff Gene Fischer, who passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday.
The 65-year-old Fischer suffered a medical emergency while attending a Buckeye State Sheriff Association convention in Sandusky and was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Xenia Mayor Sarah Mays said Fischer was the heart and soul of Greene County, and his death is a major loss for the community.
