A Level Two Snow Emergency advises that only those who feel it necessary to drive should be out on the roadways.
Power outages are affecting thousands of homes in Highland County and Highland Emergency Management says it my not be fully restored to some homes for a couple of days. With the expected drop in temperature overnight, several shelters and warming locations are being established for those who may need them. Pets though are not permitted at any of the shelters. Certified service animals are permitted. An overnight shelter and warmer center is located at Hillsboro High School at 550 US Route 62. Enter the school at the middle entrance. There are also warming centers located at the Highland County North Joint Fire District at 200 South Street in Leesburg and at Rainsboro Elementary located at 12916 Barrett Mill Road in Bainbridge. The warming center at the North Joint Fire Station is open 24/7 with the center at Rainsboro Elementary open until 7pm on Friday and then open from 8am to 7pm on Saturday.
The Ross County emergency shelter is also open for those in need. That’s at 365 Keller road. Free transportation is offered to the shelter with pick-ups made between 8pm and 9 pm at the bus stops at 7th and Sugar, Cristy’s Pizza, the Bridge Street Church of Christ and the Paint Street branch of the Chillicothe Ross County Public Library.
