Ohio's Governor Visits Chillicothe

Ohio's governor visited Chillicothe Saturday for a pre-primary rally. Our Kevin Coleman was there, and asked Governor Mike DeWine his thoughts on a possible second term.

DeWine said Ohio has always been a great manufacturing state, and he wants to continue and improve on that. He said businesses have been moving from the coasts to Ohio because the cost of doing business and cost of living is cheaper.

But he says the biggest challenge is having enough workers for them, so DeWine says he is putting a big emphasis on early childhood education.

He also said the only solution to the computer chip problem is to make them in the United States.

DeWine said Ohio still has a major drug problem, but also mental health concerns. He mentioned the de-institutionalization of psychiatric care 60 years ago, but says many did not get the community help they were supposed to get.

He also said he was very concerned about the threatened Chillicothe VA closing, pointing out that some veterans come from quite a distance for service here.

DeWine's closest Republican competitors in Tuesday's primary election are Joe Blystone and Jim Renacci.

About 50 people attended the midday Saturday rally in Chillicothe's "Pour House" restaurant on East Second Street.
