Portraits and More in July's Pump House Show

This month's show at the Pump House Center for the Arts is by an accomplished portrait artist. Kevin Coleman was at the opening reception last night and spoke with him.

In the Philippines, Gerry Enrico says he majored in advertising in a fine arts degree, and had a business representing pharmaceuticals.

He moved to California in 1990, but not being able to speak English forced him to close his business. He says he started portrait art to close the "communication gap."

And his portraits are of almost photographic quality, but show that they are hand-drawn, such as with wet streaks at the edges or being drawn on a coffee stain.

But Enrico also does abstract works. He says he follows how he feels when he wakes up in the morning. He says he's glad to be able to show all the variety of his art in this show.

Enrico says he is happy to drive an hour from his Point Pleasant home to teach a class, if there's enough students - contact the Pump House to learn more.

Enrico can be found on Facebook, and he posts his works on Instagram.
