Ride safety at Ohio State Fair

Amusement rides at the Ohio State Fair are undergoing stricter inspections thanks to Tyler's Law. This year marks the first time the midway has been set up at the state fairgrounds since the regulation took effect in 2019. The law is named for Tyler Jarrell, who was killed in 2017 when a metal arm on the Fire Ball ride broke apart during operation. David Miran, with the Ohio Department of Agriculture, says the law requires ride operators to partner with the original manufacturers, or an independent engineer, to prevent the kind of fatigue and corrosion that led to the deadly accident. The Ohio State Fair opens tomorrow in Columbus.
