Camp Cattail Pond Renovation Viewed by Ross County Commissioners

The Ross County Commissioners viewed a grant-funded improvement to a popular park Monday. Kevin Coleman was there.

"Camp Cattail" is a handicap-accessible park at the south end of Cattail Road, near County Road 550 in west-central Ross County.

Along with a multipurpose building and campsites, almost two miles of paved trails through woods and meadows, it has a pond with a dock.

Brady Ratzlaff, board president of Camp Cattail, said the undersized dock on the popular fishing pond was rebuilt and greatly enlarged. Brush was also cleared from the perimeter of the pond.

He says the park is very popular for the public too, and is open dawn to dusk year round. He says it is usually booked from March through October, including for weddings and receptions. Reservations can be requested though the park's Facebook page.

Ratzlaff is also the HR Director for the interrelated Ross County Board of DD, who also operate the nearby Pioneer School. Hear his interview below.

The grant was from the Landrum Endowment, which also funded a renovation of the restrooms at the camp last year. Dave Vosgel, Finance and Operations Director for the Ross County Board of Developmental Disabilities, explains the grant in the interview below. Started in 2016, the grant is for projects that benefit people with developmental disabilities.
