"The Hills" Opens at the Pump House Center for the Arts

The Pump House Center for the Arts hosted their opening of "The Hills," an annual competitive show. Kevin Coleman was there.

Carol Neff won $75 for second place, with her oil painting "Hibiscus in Shadow." She agreed that it was impressionistic, her favorite style, with the painting becoming almost abstract at the planter.

Neff said at her age, she keeps trying to do new and fun things...and sometimes they pay off.

Patrick Sims won grand prize with a still life oil painting of a fruit and dishes. He said it was the way he usually keeps his creative juices flowing when it could be months when he can't paint outside. He has taken to "plein air" where he paints outside on location.

Sims says it can take 30 or 40 hours for a painting like this since he must wait for the thick layers to dry.
