Ross County Sheriff's Deputy Improving after Being Shot; Blood Drive Today

Ross County Sheriff's officials say the condition of Sgt. Eric Kocheran continues to improve after he was shot in the chest earlier this month, and the community is stepping forward to honor him.

Kocheran is still hospitalized at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, but is seeing daily improvement. Community members in Chillicothe have decorated and lit a Christmas tree, all in blue, in honor of Kocheran.

A blood drive in honor of Sgt. Kocheran is set for Thursday from noon to 6:00 pm at the Red Cross South Central Ohio Branch at 181 North Bridge Street in Chillicothe. To schedule an appointment, call 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit RedCrossBlood.org.

42-year-old Nicholas Mitchell fired at Sergeant Kocheran outside the sheriff's office on November 17th, with Kocheran returning fire, fatally wounding the suspect.
