Northwestern Ohio Sheriff's Deputy Dead after Pickaway County Crash

Ohio law enforcement is in mourning following the death of Sheriff's Deputy from northwestern Ohio. A Wyandot County Sheriff’s Deputy was killed and three others, including a four-year-old child and a jail inmate, sustained injuries in a two-vehicle crash in Pickaway County, Thursday.

According to the Pickaway County Sheriff, the crash involved a civilian motorist and a Wyandot County Sheriff’s Transport van.

The crash took place around 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of State Route 56 and State Route 104 when a Dodge Ram operated by Steven S. Short of Mt. Sterling, that had been traveling eastbound along State Route 56, collided with a Dodge Wyandot County Sheriff’s Transport van that was northbound along State Route 104 and operated by Wyandot County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel J. Kin.

Steven Short was taken to Grant Medical in Columbus, while a four-year-old female passenger in his vehicle was taken to Nationwide Children’s.

An unidentified inmate inside the Sheriff’s van was taken to Berger Hospital, while Deputy Kin was flown to Grant Medical.

Pickaway County Sheriff Matthew Hafey reports that Deputy Kin succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and passed away.
